Four Elevator Removals Over Two Buildings

Working with South Tyneside Council and Schindler Lifts, our job was to carry out the stripping out of two duplex, skip floor traction lifts in each of the Monastery Court and Wilkinson Court flats.

Due to the flats being occupied, only one lift per block could be removed at a time, so tenants still had access to a lift.

Our worked involved removing the ten stop lifts, cutting the lift shaft head out and extending the lift shaft into the motor room to give access to the 11th foor. We carried out associated works, including putting up hoardings to secure the site, laying down floor protection and the setting of new lifting beams 4no and testing.

We also had to set up scaffolding, clear spoil and clean the site on a daily basis. We carried out painting work to the lift shaft too.

Since other contractors were also carrying out work on the site, we had to lay down a schedule of works which had to be strictly adhered to, to ensure that other contractors could be on site at their allotted times. We also had to abide by quiet working as the flats were still tenanted.

In line with Health and Safety Policies, we carried out all necessary Method Statements, Risk Assessments and COSHH assessments.

We had to collaborate closely with CDM Co-ordinators for this project to run smoothly, which we are pleased to say completed sucessfully and on time.
